Until 40 years ago, salt was extracted from seawater in the salt pans of Alikes. Today, the water reserve near the village of Petriti is one of the most beautiful excursion destinations on Corfu. A paradise for birdwatchers: flamingos, herons and many migratory birds make a stopover here on their journey to Africa. When you visit the Alikes salt flats, be sure to take your binoculars!
Rare plant species that specialise in salt water also thrive in the salt flats and enjoy the best conditions in the water conservation area. A picturesque destination for unforgettable nature experiences!
